Most reputable builders and individual homeowners often seek out a min. of 3-4 competing bids on a given project, which is very smart. They usually provide the architectural drawings and other important details- MAP, etc., and ask for a bid number in a short turn around. Once all of the bids are turned in, they usually skim through the details and focus on one item and one item only- the bottom line price. How much does it cost? It s unfortunate, but most builders and homeowners will solely focus on the lowest number, rather than the best number. I always tell our clients and builders we work with...." It s not how much a job cost on paper during the bid process, but rather, how much does a job cost after completion."
